I’ve had the opportunity to work with a good friend of mine Gigi over the years in various projects for her. Once again I feel privilege that the quality of my work is what keeps her calling me back for more work.
One Twenty Two First Avenue | SBS is a quaint spot in the LES area of Manhattan, it hosts a bar next to a pizza spot it also owns. The bar is a recently renovated location capable of hosting small parties and dine-in groups. As any new venue photographs of the place are of great importance as in this day and age, almost all beginning rounds of research begin searching online for images and details of desired locations.
Lounges and Bar venues are often tricky to photograph as you want to capture the ambiance of the location to give as much as you can a real feel of what the location has to offer. This location proved to be tricky to shoot as the lighting was quite dim. So we had to shoot mounted on a tripod shooting at low shutter speeds to bring in the necessary light. In some instances a gelled speedlight was used to accent some of the areas the normal eye can see (because of it’s broader dynamic range) but that the camera sensor could not capture.
Gear Talk: I used primarily the Nikon 24-70 AFS for the wide venue shots and used the Nikon 50mm 1.4 AFD to shoot some of the close up areas as well as the food shots.
